Our guest speaker is Mr. Eldon Clingan.

Eldon’s talking points will include the 2024 Elections, participation in the Democratic Party, the historic basis for social democracy in the United States, the need for social democrats to unite, and some words on sectarianism within the American Left.

Eldon joined the Socialist Party-Social Democratic Federation in 1957 and in 1958-59 he was Chair of its youth section, the Young Peoples Socialist League. As the candidate of the Liberal Party of New York State, he was elected to the New York City Council in 1969. While on the Council, he was an active proponent of tenants’ rights, and he introduced the first gay rights bill in the country. He was active in the anti-Vietnam War movement. Following his service on the City Council, he pursued a career in the financial services industry and was elected President of the National Society of Accountants in 2004. He has been a delegate to several conventions of the Massachusetts Democratic Party and is currently serving as Treasurer of the Dedham Democratic Town Committee.
